about

The first single from the upcoming album "From Wounded Soil" (2022). The music video is on YouTube!

The song Five Years is a combination of traditional Trauma Field harmony and some jazzy chords in the middle part. Jaakko’s goal was to use an expensive sounding alt chord in a metal song. He succeeded. The theme of the lyrics and the video of Five Years is the emotional trauma of being abandoned. The protagonist writes a letter to his ex-girlfriend, never to meant be sent. Nothing original here, but something most of us can relate to.

lyrics

My dear old friend
So, how have you been?
Has life treated you well?

Did you find
The things you were looking for?
It can be rough, I can tell

It was so sad it had to end
I can’t forget the morning
The things that you told me

My world hasn’t been the same
All I can do is wonder
Could I have done something more

One word
One second
Is all you need to change one's life

I hope you don’t have any regrets
I hope you don’t feel sorry for me
But still...

Losing daylight
Losing my mind
Losing everything that is left

My dear old friend
How have you been
Has he treated you well?
Did he fulfill your dreams?
I sure hope cause he
Made my life a living hell

I thought everything was well
We had made our plans
But then, out of nowhere
It all slipped away from my hands

I’ve been counting days
Lost inside this black haze

I know we haven’t spoken much
Since you came clean

But five years
Five fucking years
Have passed
And I’m still amazed

I’ve been counting nights
I will lose this fight
But I cannot let you go

This rocky path will never end
There is no strength within me
To bury these feelings
I hope that you keep moving on
Don’t live your life in regret
I hope I could do the same
